Back to the routine

Back to the double Rs....routine and reality. Vacation was great but sometimes it is nice to be back into the regular swings of life. My mom had the entire time off from work so that made her in better moods than usual :-). My brother was also around the entire time since it's still summer (he's 13). He's at a pretty good age for watching the munchkin so it seems I had lots of breaks from tending to the kiddo. And Jackson had sooo much fun with my bro; so much that my brother's name was usually the first word out of his mouth in the morning. Too cute!

I didn't get as much running in as I'd hoped. On the ride home from the airport (a 5 hr drive..blech) I started to feel like crap, developed a fever and felt like puking most of the ride. I started to feel a little better by the time we got home. But around 2 am I woke up to a lovely sound next to me....blach...and then the smell. Poor kiddo must have come down with the same thing but he actually puked. Luckily he wasn't phased by it too much and went back to sleep. But we woke up and I still felt not so great so I didn't run Tuesday or Wednesday. But I did get a run in on Thursday and Friday...then I was off to pick up the hubster back at the airport. It was great because we actually spent the night in "the city" and just enjoyed some kid free time. Planned on going running there but sleeping in, cuddled up to the hubby (a rarity) was just waaaayyyy more fun. Sunday it rained ALL day long...no run for me that day. But Monday I did get a great 9 miler in and felt pretty good....and then did a 7 mile tempo run a couple days later and then it was two more days of travel.

Yesterday I slept in and thought I'd pay for the mistake of not waking up to my alarm. But thankfully mother nature gave us a great day weather wise and I ran 12 miles. I think I ran it a little faster than I should have considering I haven't been running a lot but I felt good so I kept going :-). Legs are a little sore today but it's slowly going away...time to hop on the bike for a bit and get an active recovery workout in.

So enough with the boring writing. Sometimes feel like I hardly run at all when I read others blogs...like DC Running mama.....Salty One. Seriously.....you girls get your miles in. But anyway, I digress. During these longer runs I start thinking about all the things I want to write on here. It's my "only" connection to the outside world really. These are the times I really miss working. It seems that when I do talk to other moms the only talking we do is kid related or some other "boring" topic. I really miss having real conversations. Ya know, ones where we talk about saving the world and crap...haha, I mean talking about the latest and greatest hollywood gossip. Ok, some deep philosophical talk would be great, too (I do really miss those). I'd love to talk to people about how we can get more and more friends to make a difference in our world. The peeps on NPR recently talked about the American small dairy farmers and how it has evolved into the system that exists at the moment (sad one by the way). Anyway, there are a few posts that don't talk about anything near running that I'd like to get out. I need to make some friends here that actually do care about this kind of stuff and want to make a difference.

Well, the munchkin just woke up from his nap and is asking for me. Anyone know a toddler sleep specialist????? :-) He has been sleeping like crap for the last few weeks. I need some help!!!!
